Classical Jiri- Everest Base camp Trekking
The Classical Jiri- Everest Base Camp Trek is probably the most famous trekking route in the world. Jiri is the traditional starting point for the approach to Everest, but this approach is very often omitted these days as busy visitors take the option to fly to Lukla. This remains an option of course, but it is worth pointing out that the walk-in from Jiri offers much benefit through gradual altitude acclimatisation as well as a very special experience in getting to know the Sherpa people of this region and their Buddhist culture. This classical route does pass through Lukla and Namche Bazar, but then goes via Gokyo and across the high Cho La Pass at an elevation of 5420m as well as scaling Kala Patthar which is adjacent to Everest Base Camp. This route presents magnificent views of Everest, as well as of Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu and Cho Oyu. At Everest Base Camp you will also have the chance to have a close look at the spectacular Khumbu Icefall.
Relative beginners or inexperienced climbers can undertake this trek, but it does require one to be moderately fit. Considering the possible snow conditions over Cho La Pass, the trek may not be advisable during winter (January & February) and the monsoon season (July & August).
